Aris Theophilou has over 13 years of experience in Civil/ Structural/ Temporary Works Engineering consulting. He participated in over 100 projects ranging from tall/public buildings, airports, bridges, tide/flood protection, desalination plants, water and wastewater distribution. His specializations are the earthquake-resistant design of concrete structures, and temporary works design.
Carried out a number of temporary works designs that include temporary structure shoring of buildings and bridges, cofferdam propping, excavation shaft shoring, slope stability analysis, crane installations, piling platforms, falsework design, hoardings, etc. Participated in various projects at Heathrow Airport, the Eight2O (Thames Water) project, the Thames Tideway at Carnwath project, the Box Encapsulation Plant at Sellafield, and the Thames Estuary Asset Management to 2100 project.
Responsible for the management of the technical office, reporting directly to the Director of Operations. The office primarily developed temporary works designs, such as excavation shoring, slope stability analysis, ground bearing capacity analysis, piling platforms, tower crane foundations, underpinning design, falsework design, structural design and structural shoring for temporary works supports, hoardings, etc. Also carried out precast section design, and some permanent structures. Used extensively British Standards, such as BS 5975, and European standards, such as the Eurocode.
Involved in the structural design of multi-storey buildings, such as apartment blocks, schools, government buildings, hotels. Was also involved in the structural design of water-retaining structures, and in the condition and earthquake-resistant capacity assessment of existing buildings. In the majority of the projects the structural type was reinforced concrete casted in-situ, the rest being steelwork. All work was carried out to European, British, and American standards, such as the Eurocode, BS 8110, BS 5950, and ACI-318.
Involved in the seismic assessment and retrofit of a multipsan bridge over Neponset River in Boston, and in the condition assessment of other bridges in Boston.
